Pat ToddArtist Statement
Art is the way in which I nurture and express my love for the natural world. Whether I am inspired to paint by something spectacular or commonplace, I work to create an aesthetic which will connect others to the beauty surrounding them. This is a process I find challenging, fulfilling, and joyful.
Old barns have become a personal metaphor for 'home'. During the years since 1989, when I moved to Vermont, barns have provided me a bridge between past and present and a connection to a shared rural tradition. When I see a barn, I feel the committed partnership of man to the land, fantasize family histories, and honor past hopes and disappointments. I try to capture this connection to place through strong design elements and bold pairings of color.
